Conjunctions

My writing task was to image I have stumbled across an image of one of the abandoned places our teacher sent to us. In the description of our writing that we wrote about the image we have to use a variety of conjunctions to create an image in the audience's mind.

This is the photo I choose out of three photos

I have highlighted the conjunctions I have used

There is an old concrete door in the middle of the dark, sandy path. There are lots of pilled rocks on the left of the door. The door looks like it used to belong to an old house because there are what look like walls circling around the door. You cannot see what is behind the door because it is pitch black in there. A very old tree stump lies on the top of the door in the right way so that it doesn't fall down. There is moss on the concrete walls.

Writing 'ing' And 'ed' Verbs At The Start Of Sentences

In writing we learnt about puting 'ing' and 'ed' verbs at the front of our sentences. I think I did a great job with coming up with two sentences that started with an 'ing' word.

Here is mine

Catch Me If You Can

Every week we learn about skills and movement that will help us play sports. This term’s focus has been around defense. We made a video showing some of the goals we have been practicing. I have highlighted the things I think I have done well YELLOW and one thing I would like to work on PINK.

Body:
WALT: Defensive skills and movements

Success Criteria:

Body Movement
  • Weight on balls of feet
  • Feet shoulder width apart
  • Knees flexed
  • Concentration and eyes on ball, head and eyes up
  • Push hard off outside foot and go forwards to attack pass
  • Quick small feet, stay on balls of feet
  • Arms within confines of body
  • Take feet to ball
  • Land with a SBP

Intercepting

  • Body angled to see player and ball
  • Anticipate pass and player movement

Restrictive Marking

  • Meet player as they start towards the ball/where they want to go
  • stay close to the attacking player
  • Head and eyes up, arms close to body to avoid obstruction/contact
  • Angle body so attacking player is ‘pushed’ away from where he/she wants to go
  • 0.9m from ball carrier

Click Below To Watch My Video

Evaluation:
I think I did a great job but I could work on Pushing off my outside foot and go towards the attack pass because I didn't push off my outside leg. I will need to improve on that by getting someone to show me how to do it again and keep on practicing. I want to finish this by term. I think I will be able to complete my goal.

Feedback/Feedforward:
I think that you have been listening very well in CMIYC time. You are always on the balls of your feet ready to try get the ball. Next time I think you can work on making sure there is a small distance between you and your partner because you were quite close to your partner. You might get called for obstruction.

Discovery Time

Today we had Disovery Time. Discovery Time is when we get to chose a task that the teachers have given us to do. I chose sewing because it is fun to do and it is a really different experience because I have never done sewing before. At the moment I am trying to finish a pillow that I have started to make  I think it looks really cool. It has even got the first letter of my name on it and some polka-dots.

What do you think?

I.N.G Verds

Today we learnt about I.N.G Verbs and puting them at the front of our sentences. For this task we have to complete a particular sentence with six sentences all the sentences have to start with an I.N.G word.

The particular sentence is:
Ariving by moonlight, there were three of us.

Here is mine:
Ariving by moonlight, there were three of us. Darting across the rose petal garden we met in the middle of the garden with our beautiful red, white and orange dresses. Dancing around each other happy to see each other again at the palace. Stoping outside the palace steps we heard music coming from inside the palace. Racing up the stairs was very fun as we pushed each other laughing at our selfs. Ringing in our ear was the sound of the waltz coming from in the ball room. Entering the ballroom some people stopped and stared but we didn't care we went straight over to our seats to watch everyone dance.

Drivers And Blockers

Today we did a reading task about Drivers and Blockers for our learning. We had three sheets of paper  with pictures of things that could block our learning or drive it. A driver is someone or something that drives your learning so you can get on with your learning that you are doing but a blocker is the opposite to a driver because a blocker is someone or something that blocks the learning that you are doing.

Here is my blockers and drivers sheet

Writing 2015

This is my writing task that we did in class. I think I did a great job. We had to end and start a sentence in our own way. This is mine.

2 Stars 1 Wish

Today we reflected on the things that we have done that we are proud of and also what we think we can make a goal about for next term. We used the method of the 2 Stars 1 Wish. The 2 Stars is what we are proud of that we have done and the Wish is what we turn into a goal.

Te Ahu a Turanga Noho Marae

Description:  In week 7, we had an overnight stay at the local Marae in Woodville.  We were immersed in Maori culture and participated in a range of activities.  We set two goals to focus on during our stay.

Big Idea:
1.  I think I did very well to achieve both goals. I know I have completed this goal because I did wake up at 7.00am and I did try some different foods that I haven't tried before.

2.  I am most proud of doing the gorge walk because it was really hard and my legs started to feel sore but I still did it.

3.  The thing that challenged me the most was trying to fall asleep because the sleeping bags made some noise as well as kids talking but I was really pleased when I did fall asleep.

Geometry Car Badges

Description:
We have been learning about transformation.  We have specifically learnt that...

  • translation is when an object slides in any direction;
  • rotation is when an object is turned around a central point;
  • reflection is when an object is flipped and has a line of symmetry.

Our challenge was to design a car badge that contained at least one of these aspects of transformation.  I choose to do a car badge about what I like.

My Big Idea:

Feedback/Feedforward:
I really love your badge Amy!
You have showed reflection really well.
What I think you should work on is to try to get more translation in your badge to make it more unique.
Well done,
Aye :-P

Evaluation:I think I did a really great job with making sure everything was reflected onto the other side. Next time I do this I could have made my picture a bit bigger so I could see it a bit more easily, also I could have put my self into the pit and not just have done reflection but have done something else as well as reflection.

How Clouds Were Made? By Amy

Purpose: create a story to share orally

Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7.

Characters draft

My Story Board

This is my video of me performing to my audience:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHAcflFqFXc&sns=em

Big Idea:
My big idea is to turn my story in my book to story telling at the Marae, without my book because that's how maori people used to tell their story's. My story is about how clouds were made. I wanted to do it about something that would inspire others about that you can make up any story even if its not real.

Success Criteria:
Between 1 and 2 minutes long

Using your voice to make sounds effects Using your whole body to make actions

Use your face to tell a story through facial expressionKnowing the story, knowing the setting

Get the picture into your listener’s head

Stay in character - keep your composure

Audience participationUnique and original (Hook your audience)

Feedback/Feedforward: I think you did a very good job at storytelling but If you do it again make sure the camera is still.😃

Evaluation:
I think I did a great job with using facial expressions because I showed my audience that the different characters had different faces, though I need to remember to stay in character because of my voice, when I am about to finish a sentence my slowly creeps back to normal and then it doesn't sound right. When Ebony said that some of us were going to perform at the Marae I sank back into my chair and thought to my self OH MY GOSH! I am so nervous I don't want to perform in front of 30 kids.

Star Test

Description:
We did a star test. There were some parts that were hard and some parts were easy. I think thought that I was challenged a lot. There was four sections to the test, Word Recognition, Sentence Comprehesion, Paragraph Comprehesion and Vocabulary.

Big Idea:
My new goal for this term is to get better at my Comprehesion because I need to work on seeing a mental image in my mind. I am going to practice hard so I can see in my mind what I'm reading a lot more than what I am doing now. I want to complete this goal by the end of this term. I know I have completed this goal by letting someone I know listen to me read and then talking to them about what I saw in my mind after I read a paragraph. I know I haven't completed this goal if after I read for 20 mins I am still having trouble to see a very clear picture.

Bus Stop Writing

Purpose: Describe the characteristics of an object

Big Idea: Big, bright and yellow. This bus stop is very strange. It is different in its own way. I have never come across a picture like this before and I think it is very creative. Maybe it is part of an old bus but maybe they sprayed yellow paint on it to make it look new? It would be cool if there are more bus stops like this in the future maybe it would look cool.

Stuck Movie

On Monday, we watched a really funny movie about 2 people who get stuck on an escalator. Have you seen it?

We think that we can relate the message in this movie to our learning...Its like being stuck in our learning, we need to ask for help and we need to look for ways to solve the problem ourselves. We thought it would be fun to make our own movie to get this message across. We had 2 groups of criteria for our movie...

Criteria: (Content)
  • Video - 30 seconds long, time is limited.
  • Scenario - Show someone being stuck and not using the ability to act.
  • Clear Message - Short sharp clip. Can the watcher get the point of your video?
  • Unique - Coming up with something funny that gets a laugh from others.
  • Time Passing - Do you need to show time passing in your clip to emphasise your message.

Criteria: (Movie)

  • Light - Make sure the sun isn’t creating a hard to see clip.
  • Voice Volume - Needs to be louder than other background volume eg Noise, Kids.
  • Frame - What’s in the frame to make your message obvious.
  • Steady Hands - Make sure the camera is still.
  • Individual Clips - Don’t do one continuous shot of 30 seconds. Make a range of short clips and join together.
Here Is My Video:http://youtu.be/K6WdpG67ZQw

Feedback/Feedforward: I think that you have done very well on your video. But next time you should talk and add her looking under the door and so on. # Livvy

Swimming

This term we are doing swimming again. We had to buddy up with a buddy so they could video us showing our skills in the pool. After that we looked back at our videos and choose a goal that we would work on for this term.

Here is a link to my video:

Big Idea:
My goal is to make sure I breath on the side and do not breath in front of me for freestyle. I can help me accomplish my goal by practicing turning my head on the side in the pool. I know I have completed this goal by getting someone to take a video of me and comparing my progress with my first video. I could also go and ask Simone to give me feedback. I would like to finish this goal before the term ends.

Evaluation:
We have just had Swimming Sports and I am very proud of myself because I know that in freestyle I breathed on the side and that made me faster than I was before.

Maths Test

Maths Test

Description:
This week we have been doing math tests. To pass the different stages we had to get over 40 right. We had only ten minutes to complete the tests. First I did stage four and I passed, then I did stage five the next day and I passed, finally I did stage six and it was really hard. Now I am on stage six. But we got to redeem ourselves the next day by buddying up with a buddy and testing them on the questions of stage six that they got wrong, The yellow on stage six is where we got some more questions right the next day when we got to redeem our selves.

Stage 4

Stage 5

 Stage 6

Big Idea:
For stage 6 we got a second chance to answer the questions but we only can get a tick beside the question if answer the question in three seconds. After that we highlight the questions we mostly got wrong with a pink highlighter. Then that will tell us what our goal is. My goal is to Write numbers to 10 000 000, including fractions & decimals.

That Was Me Growing Up

That was me growing up

Purpose: To share memories from my childhood

We had to write a story about us growing up. I wrote about my first ballet class and making my first smoothie. It was really fun and I hope you like my story.

This is my story:
Remember scattering a smoothie all over the floor, now knowing to be cautious? That was my first time trying to make the perfect, pink smoothie that I imagined, it was a peach, smoothie, that I spilt on the kitchen floor, I NEVER did that again!

Remember darting up the stairs of my first ballet class, as I lept for joy in the warm, humbling, vast room, I wear my favourite pink, sparkling tutu as I dance around the place? I love the feeling of leaping into the air it feels like I am strong and beautiful.

That was me growing up!

Writing Showcase

We had to write three different paragraphs or parts of writing for a Writing Showcase. We put a url on the doc to show that we have finished our three pieces of writing. These are my three pieces of writing.

WALT: Use a wide variety of adjectival and adverbial phrases to clearly convey meaning.

How

When

1st:Early in the morning, I run fast like a fully charged race car which goes up and down the tall, steep hills. I slowly sniffed up a chunk of minty fragrance. My nose whifts up the smell of peppermint. Smells of peppermint waft everywhere, fresh, fresh. The devine smell whirls around the trees like swirling ice cream. While big tall trees make a bridge over the top of me, I feel a surge of pleasure rushing through my body.  I looked to the right and see a muddy dirt path. It has a mix of stones and mud. Mud, slimy, slimy, mud. These words ring through my head like a bell on a door. Then I realize this is the amazing bike track that I use for sleading in the winter. It looks very different at this time of year. When the leaves are growing strong, the flowers start to bloom and blossom in the fresh new morning.

2:"Sunny why are you playing, fiddling and making shapes with the dentists stuff? What are you doing looking under Sunny's dress Callum? Your scared. Well, I want you to get out of the dress now. Girls need some privacy. Oh dear, Lili what were you doing outside the door? You got lost outside! Oh dear, well I'm just lucky that I didn't loose you. I am very sorry about all the fuss over these children. They just won't listen sometimes. I will try to keep them under control. Which child would you like to see first dentist? who is called... Oh, that right Mia? That was a very good choice. Ok Lili jump up onto the seat please. No Lili,I didn't mean keep on jumping on the seat, why you ask. You might break the seat. I don't care if you like it! Just sit on the seat. Don't you dear try it to Callum. Callum Wait hold on a second Callum. Sunny put the drill down. No way are you going to use that on someone's teeth."

3:She has got curly brown hair that goes down to her shoulders. Rosalind likes to wear her hair down a lot. Her eye’s are greenish goldy and they sparkle when she is happy. Her nose is medium sized and it is curvy too. The mouth of Rosalind's is medium and her teeth are white like snow on a mountain. She loves wearing t-shirts also shorts. Her favourite top is a orange and white striped top which has a little orange bow on one side of the top. She also loves wearing bare feet. Rosalind Says proudly, "I like to wear bare feet." She loves animals. Rosalind cares for animals. Her favourite animal is a horse who will canter fast in the morning breeze. She is very kind to animals. Rosalind is kind, caring and never gives up. When people are hurt she will go help them. She will say, "Are you all right!" I think Rosalind is a great friend to have. Her favourite toys is a sausage dog that sits, rolls over and who's best friends is Teatop The Turtle.

Athletics Goals

Today I had to make up some athletics goals that I could work on. I have got three goals and I put how I could get better at them.
